okay, so you're building an AI-powered project and you want it to be everything all at once - it should:

do the thing (you want it to do)

be accurate and complete (and all the metrics you're tracking)

be safe (or as safe as possible?)

be honest when it does not know the answer

work reliably (during heavy traffic and otherwise)

<fill in your own desired traits here>

it's so much easier to optimize for these qualities once you already have something running.

hear me out when I say this, v0 is supposed to be messy. You're supposed to improve on it - that's why it's called v0.

"Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly."

~ Robert H. Schuller

but don't get me wrong - it's very important to have a plan for the v0. plan it out, shape the product, shape the API contracts, think of how you'll experiment and iterate on it. but once that's done, build it. then run it. and see how it works, on a seed set of use cases.

then comes the interesting part. spot the failure modes. see where it fails. that's how you spot the gaps you should attend to next.

then, select the most glaring failure mode and experiment with solutions for only that failure mode. see if it improves. but also observe what worsens. you must know what you're losing to get there - the trade-offs - only then you can choose wisely.

to get to a place where everything works accurately, reliably, safely and honestly, we need to build something imperfect, understand the failures, and take steps to fill in the gaps. on repeat. until we reach the place we want to reach.

so if you were waiting for a sign to start building your AI project, here it is. I promise you, the plan you already have is good enough for v0. go build something that runs, the satisfaction and the dopamine hit that comes with that becomes the fuel you need to make it better.

let it be imperfect, let it fail - that's how it'll succeed.

and honestly, it's so much easier to improve something when it's running in front of you than when it's all imagined in your head.

this is how I wrote this blog - my first blog. there have been zero revisions - so consider this my v0. I promise to keep iterating and improving. but for now, this is out there. in the real world. imperfect, messy, real.

If you enjoyed this, I'm glad. I'm here to talk about real AI-powered projects from experience. from building, failing and learning so you can start from a stronger footing. always happy to hear from readers and fellow Applied AI builders! let me know what resonated with you!
